Gilich Turns to Guice's Own Words for Eulogy, more Biloxi News

From:  City of Biloxi 4/19/17   GCN

When it came time to deliver a formal eulogy Tuesday for "Danny" Guice, Mayor Andrew "FoFo" Gilich turned to the words of the three-term Biloxi mayor himself.

Gilich who said Guice was a regular visitor at his City Hall office since he became mayor two years ago, recounted his first recollections of the beloved community leader during his brief remarks at Guice's funeral Tuesday afternoon at the Dr. Frank G. Gruich Sr. Community Center. Gilich then held up a copy of the full-color promotional book showcasing Biloxi, "This is Biloxi, Mississippi," which Guice had created in March 1969, just five months before Hurricane Camille devastated the city.

"Let me close with his message, in Danny's own words, which is our message today," Gilich said, reading from a Guice letter in the front cover of the book:

"'The people of our city invite you to be part of metropolitan Biloxi's bright future. Culturally unique, historical in atmosphere, but progressive in spirit. THIS IS BILOXI. Make it your city, too. Daniel D. Guice Mayor. '"

Added Gilich: "On behalf of Biloxi, thank you, Danny Guice."
