On Saturday, May 17, the Mississippi
Gulf Coast will celebrate the one year anniversary of the opening of the
Bay of St. Louis Bridge by hosting the 2008 BridgeFest.
In May 2007, the opening of the Bay of
St. Louis Bridge on the Mississippi Gulf Coast marked a milestone in
Katrina recovery. The opening ceremonies and festival celebrating the
event received national media attention as the country shared in the
uplifting occasion. The Hancock County Chamber of Commerce has since
spearheaded another event this year, working in concert with the
Mississippi Department of Transportation to unveil a national public art
project—the Bay Bridge ArtWalk.
The 2008 BridgeFest will take place on
Saturday, May 17th in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and features an
"unveiling" of new bronze plaques designed by local artists and sculpted
by local artisan Greg Moran that will adorn the bridge's magnificent new
pedestrian and biking walkway. Moran said, “There is no other public art
project like this in the country.” The unveiling of the ArtWalk begins at
9 a.m. and is followed by an ArtWalk & Fun Run. From 12 noon – 7 p.m.,
festival activities will continue at the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club featuring
regional food and musicians.
If you have any questions pertaining
to this event, please contact Tish Williams or Ellis Anderson of Hancock
Chamber of Commerce at (228) 493-2107.
