If you are going to evacuate at a community pick up point it is not necessary to call CTA or register for this service. Just be at one of the ten locations at the designated time. Transportation will be available between 1 and 6 p.m. however we are strongly urging people to be at the community pick up points between 1 and 2 p.m. to allow adequate time for an orderly process and minimize wait times. School buses will carry people from these locations to the Red Cross Shelter at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson where they will be fed and cared for by MEMA until it is safe to return to the Coast. Each person will be allowed to bring only two bags. Small pets will be allowed but must be in a pet carrier and will count as one of the two bags. Pets will be taken to the Pet Shelter in Jackson. Owners must accompany their pets and be responsible for them at all times. Qualified pets include dogs, cats, birds and pocket pets with the exception of lizards or snakes. There will be no exceptions to these rules. People that can not get to the Community Pick-up Points must call Coast Transportation Authority at 228-896-8080 immediately to make arrangements to be picked up. All out-of-town public transportation assistance will end at 6 p.m. Sunday. Anyone who is not at one of the pick-up points prior to that time will not receive assistance to evacuate out of town. Transportation to local shelters of last resort will take place at a later time. People wishing to inquire about the status of evacuees at the Jackson Red Cross shelter should call 1-800-Red-Cross. More Information: CTA will be engaged in full scale evacuation of Harrison County residents on Sunday August 31. All CTA buses and drivers will be needed to accomplish the process. All regularly scheduled CTA Fixed Routes will start as scheduled on Sunday August 31 and all Fixed Route service will be discontinued at 12:00 p.m. on that day at which time those assets will work the evacuation. We apologize for any inconvenience that is caused by this early termination of service. Some confusion exists in the public about the availability of Community Pick Up Points for transportation to shelters located in Harrison County. The Good Deeds Center is the only Community Pick Up Point that will be available for transportation to a local shelter. Residents will be transported from that site to a local shelter only from 6 - 9 p.m. CTA will not provide any services on Monday September 1 or Tuesday September 2 unless weather and street conditions allow.
