Kiln Business Owner Arrested for Falsely Labeling Gas
Pleads Guilty
From: Office of the Attorney General Filed 8/14/07 GCN
Jackson, Miss - Attorney General, Jim Hood, announced the guilty plea of a
Kiln resident, for violating the Petroleum Products Inspection Law of
Mississippi, August 12, 2008.
Randy I. Koenenn, age 49, operator of Kodie's Junction, a gas station
located at the intersection of Highway 603 and Highway 43 in Kiln, Ms,
entered a plea of guilty to two counts of imitation of a trade name in the
Hancock County Justice Court before Judge Tommy Carver. Judge Carver
fined Koenenn $500 dollars on each count for a total of $1000, plus court
costs which is the maximum penalty.
A routine inspection by the Department of Agriculture and Commerce led to
Koenenn's arrest last month. Inspectors found that Koenenn was filling his
gasoline holding tanks with 87 octane gasoline and selling it through his
89 octane and 93 octane pumps. This inspection led to an investigation by
the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General's Office.
"This man took advantage of the working people in The Kiln, who have been
suffering since Katrina, at a time when they are struggling just to buy
enough gas to get to work," said General Hood. "Although he got the
maximum sentence, I will be working with legislators to try to increase
the penalties for this type of crime."
This case involved the cooperative efforts of the Consumer Protection
Division of the Attorney General's Office and the Mississippi Department
of Agriculture and Commerce.
