Mississippi Republican Party Issues Statement on Barack Obama's Vice Presidential Selection

Jackson, Miss – Brad White, incoming Chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party, released the following statement today:

“The selection of Sen. Joe Biden (Photo left) as Sen. Obama’s running mate does nothing to bring the Democratic ticket closer to the values of Mississippians. In fact, Biden’s contempt for our state has never been clearer than when he helped lead the Democrats’ charge against Judge Charles Pickering’s judicial nomination in 2002.

“Joe Biden falls in lock step with every point on the Democratic Party’s platform, which means he couldn’t be further out of line with the beliefs of mainstream Mississippi. He has a career long pro-choice record and in 2006 voted against a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. In 2008, he was ranked the third-most liberal member of the U.S. Senate according to the nonpartisan National Journal Magazine, with Obama being ranked the most liberal Senator.

“After looking at Biden’s record, the only things I can find that I have in common with him are his recent comments that Obama isn’t ready to assume the duties of the presidency.”
