OK, we're a week away from Thanksgiving, and that means plans for the holidays are afoot. It's time to register for some of the most popular Biloxi Christmas events.

Organizers of Biloxi's signature holiday event, Christmas on the Water, are taking applications for participants in the children's and boat parades, and Biloxi Main Street is accepting vendor applications for the Christmas in the City festival.

Parents, guardians and organizations can sign up to participate in the Christmas on the Water Children's Parade, which takes place in downtown on Friday, Nov. 30. The parade, which begins at 6 p.m., is open to children in kindergarten through fourth grade and organizations or walking units, such as marching bands and dance groups. The parade will begin on Howard Avenue at the I-110 overpass and end at the Biloxi Town Green, where Santa Claus will assist with the lighting of the Christmas tree. Registration forms are available at the Biloxi Parks & Recreation Department, 377 Hiller Drive, or online. Registration deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Meanwhile, boat owners are asked to participate in the annual boat parade, which takes place in the evening on Saturday, Dec. 1 along the Biloxi waterfront. Those interested should attend the Captains and Skippers meeting on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum to register their boats, receive parade logistics and have a chance to buy Christmas on the Water shirts.

Also, Biloxi Main Street is asking arts, crafts, food and specialty vendors to sign up for the Christmas in the City festival. The affair will take place in the downtown Rue Magnolia area on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Interested vendors should complete an application and return it to the Biloxi Main Street office by Friday, Nov. 23.

Christmas on the Water shirts are available for purchase at the Biloxi Visitors Center and the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum and will also be on sale at Christmas in the City.

Christmas on the Water, which is organized by volunteers, is one of several community events that helps Biloxi usher in the holidays.
