Secretary of State Announces Names of Corporations Committee Members
From: Office of the Secretary of State Filed 7/24/08 GCN
Jackson, MS—In
an effort to provide for a more business-friendly environment, Secretary
of State Delbert Hosemann has tapped twenty-two Mississippians from all
over the State to research corporations and how we can make our business
climate more efficient.
“There are currently
66,886 corporations in Mississippi and that number is steadily
increasing,” says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “We want to make
sure we streamline all aspects of forming and operating corporations in
our State to promote economic growth.”
Over the next few weeks,
members of the Corporations committee will consider the effects of
revisions to the Mississippi Business Corporations Act, adoptions of
“conversion statutes,” improvements to the corporate reporting process by
allowing expedited filings via the internet, and reviewing the Model
Registered Agent Act which would standardize the way business entities
would appoint and change their registered agents.
The results of their
findings will be forwarded to the Governor and the Legislature.
