Huge Turnout For Wicker Fund
Raiser At Coast Coliseum Dinner
by Keith Burton - GCN 9/19/08
By any account, a major fund raiser dinner
for Republican Senator Roger Wicker was a success Thursday evening at the
Coast Coliseum in Biloxi. The event drew nearly 500 major contributors
including many of the Coast's most significant business leaders to the
$100 a plate, $1,000 a table dinner to hear Wicker speak.
On hand for the introductions were
Governor Haley Barbour as well as the rest of the State's top Republican
leadership including Lt. Governor Phil Bryant, Secretary of State Delbert
Hoseman, state Treasurer Tate Reeves, and state Insurance Commissioner
Mike Chaney.
The
governor praise Wicker for the commitment of service Wicker has
demonstrated both before Barbour nominated him to serve after the
retirement of Sen. Trent Lott, while Wicker was Congressman, and
especially since his appointment. Barbour said the race between Wicker in
his Democratic Party opponent, former Governor Ronnie Musgrove, is among
the most important in the nation in the upcoming elections and a
Republican victory in Mississippi for
Wicker would be critical for conservatives in Washington.
Wicker was gracious and thanked the
governor and others who have supported him over the past year, praising
the consideration that people across the state have shown. Wicker noted
that national democrats are pumping more than $5 million dollars into
Mississippi, beyond what the candidates have raised individually, in
support of Musgrove, which he considered evidence of the importance they
see regarding the race in this state.

Connie Rockco and Kim Savant.
Senator Roger F. Wicker was appointed to the United States Senate on
December 31, 2007 by Governor Haley Barbour. Prior to his Senate tenure,
Wicker served seven terms in the United States Congress, having been
re-elected in 2006 with more than sixty percent of the vote. Wicker is a
U.S. Air Force veteran and became involved in politics in 1980 as counsel
